A loop trek that traverses unique and still little-visited landscapes from the Carnic Alps to the Friulian Dolomites and the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, all the way to the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park.

The route takes place along well-marked and interconnected trails. No climbing experience is necessary.

Day 1: Arrival in Tolmezzo

Individual arrival at the hotel in Tolmezzo.

Day 2: Tolmezzo - Lago Volaia - Forni Avoltri

(approx. 15 km, ascent approx. 1000 m, approx. 6-7 hours)

After a short transfer to Forni Avoltri you will begin the trek to Lake Volaia (Wolayer-See), located on the Italian-Austrian border. On the shores of the lake is the Lambertenghi - Romanin hut and, in former Austrian territory, the Wolayer See Hütte, where you can stop to enjoy typical mountain cuisine. You will continue through the Passo Giramondo from which you will be able to admire Lake Bordaglia, jewel of the Carnic Alps, and then begin the descent to Casera Sissanis and Stretta di Fleons, until you reach Forni Avoltri.

Day 3: Forni Avoltri - Sappada

(approx. 16 km, ascent approx. + 1300 m; approx. 7 hours)

Today’s route begins by climbing to the Malga Tuglia, from which you can admire the view of the Sappada basin and Peralba and Popera mountains in Comelico. You will continue along the trail to Cima Sappada and, skirting the bicycle path, you will reach Munschein and finally Sappada, the destination of today‘s stage.

Day 4: Sappada - Laghi D´Olbe - Sappada

(approx. 9,5 km, ascent approx. + 920 m; approx. 4-5 hours)

Starting from the center of town, you will begin to walk in the direction of the D´Olbe Lakes, three mirrors of crystal-clear water from which you can enjoy a splendid panorama. You will continue in the direction of the Monte Ferro Refuge through a panoramic path over the Sappada Valley and then return to the village.

Day 5: Sappada - Auronzo di Cadore

(approx. 12 km, ascent approx. + 1150 m; approx. 5-6 hours)

Today‘s stage begins with a transfer to Sesto, from which you will enter the Fiscalina Valley to Lake Landro. You will continue along a trail to Rifugio Locatelli and the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and symbol of the Dolomites.

Day 6: Auronzo di Cadore - Rifugio Padova

(approx. 8,5 km, ascent appprox. + 650 m; approx. 3-4 hours)

After packing your backpack with the necessities for today‘s night, you will have a short transfer to Domegge di Cadore. After crossing the bridge over the Piave River, you will begin the ascent through the Talagona Valley to the Rifugio Cercenà, to finally reach the Rifugio Padova with the Spalti del Toro behind you.

Day 7: Rifugio Padova - Forni di Sopra

(approx. 12,5 km, ascent approx. + 1050 m; approx. 6-7 hours)

Today you will hike a scenic route in the Friulian Dolomites Park. From the Rifugio you will climb along the Val d´Arade, to pass the Forcella Monfalcon di Forni and the Forcella del Cason, before reaching the Marchi-Granzotto bivouac. You will then climb to the Urtisel pass and then reach the Rifugio Giaf and, from there, the center of Forni di Sopra.
