Day 1: Arrival in Gemona
Individual arrival in Gemona. Those who arrive early can ride to Venzone (approx. 20 km).
Day 2: Gemona - Tour to Casa delle Farfalle in Bordano and to Lake Cavazzo
(approx. 27 km)
Breakfast and departure for Bordano where you will visit the Butterfly House, a corner of tropical forest that offers the largest display of live butterflies and insects in Italy. At the end you will reach Lake Cavazzo with a pleasant ride. Here you will have a picnic lunch in the picnic area where the little ones can play. For the more athletic we recommend trying a canoe ride on the lake before returning to the hotel.
Day 3: Gemona - Cornino Lake - San Daniele del Friuli
(approx. 35 km)
Breakfast and departure to explore the Griffon Vulture Nature Reserve and Cornino Lake with its beautiful waters. After a walk around the lake you can stop at the Griffon Vulture Reserve Visitor Center to admire these beautiful birds. At the end of the stage you will reach San Daniele, home of prosciutto raw ham, which you will be able to taste in a typical factory. We recommend a walk through the historic center with a stop at the church of Sant‘Antonio Abate, to admire the most beautiful Renaissance fresco cycle in the region.
Day 4: San Daniele - Fagagna - Udine
(approx. 30 km)
After breakfast, depart for a scenic ride among the moraine hills of Friuli Venezia Giulia until Fagagna, one of Italy´s most beautiful towns, known for its namesake cheese. Welcomed by the flight of the storks of the Quadris Oasis, you will enjoy the enchanting views from the hill with the castle ruins. Visit the Museum of Peasant Life in Cjase Cocél, nestled in a large old rural stone farmhouse, to discover the rituals of Friulian peasant life in the early 20th century. Finally, you will continue on to Udine, the destination of today‘s stage. If you wish, before starting today‘s stage to Udine, you can ride around Ragogna Lake (approx. 5 km).
Day 5: Udine - Rogge tour
(approx. 20 km)
Today you will undertake the “Passeggiata delle Rogge,” a pedestrian and bicycle path about 11 km long that from Molin Nuovo reaches Reana del Rojale. This route on a white asphalt road running alongside the irrigation ditch will take you to the discovery of villages and fields, characterized by mills, small churches and bridges...a real sight just outside the gates of Udine. Stop at the Adegliacco Park playground area with its installations. Back in Udine, we recommend a tour of the historic center and a stop for the “rite of Tajut” in one of the typical Friulian taverns.
Day 6: Udine - Aquileia - Grado
(approx. 17 km)
Breakfast and transfer to Aquileia where with an audio guide you will take a journey to discover the secrets and splendors of this town, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will visit the Roman forum and the immense Patriarchal Basilica with its magnificent floor mosaics. At the end of the tour, stop at the factory of chocolate where you will discover the secrets of chocolate making and take a tasting tour. For the adults a wine tasting will follow. Back on the bike path you will reach Belvedere and from there Grado, final stop on your journey.
Day 7: Grado - Tour to the Nature Reserve of Foce dell´Isonzo - Isola della Cona
(approx. 48 km)
Departure by bicycle to the Cavanata Valley. From here, along an itinerary partly on a bike path and partly on a gravel road, you will reach the mouth of the Isonzo River. Free visit to the Foce dell‘Isonzo Nature Reserve where you can admire the Camargue horses living free in the area together with an incredible variety of resident and migratory birds. Once you have returned to Grado, you will have the afternoon at your disposal to enjoy the sun or to visit the historic center with its small roads, squares and stores surrounded by the splendid Art Nouveau palaces, scenic stone houses and colorful fishermen‘s cottages. We recommend a stop at the Basilica of St. Euphemia and the Baptistery and to enjoy a good ice cream while walking along the “Dam”.
