This hiking trip offers the unique experience of discovering three countries in one week. The North of Italy meets Austria and Slovenia. Experience an exciting hiking trip in the impres-sive mountains and natural landscapes characterised by the three cultures of the countries. The first night is spent in Tarvisio and the first stage starts in Maglern in Austria and leads to the summit of the Dreiländereck „the three-country corner“. Then the Slovenian part of the hiking tour starts and leads to Podkoren a charming little village close to Kranjska Gora. The tour continues through the Triglav National Park, the kingdom of the legendary Zlatorog, the white chamois with golden horns,g and leads once again in Italy where you walk through the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region characterised by the Carnic mountain group of over 100 km in length. A highlight of the tour is certainly the Italian pilgrimage town of Monte Lussari.
The hike is very versatile, it runs along marked mountain and hiking trails but also more challnging trails. The tour is suitable for anyone with a good basic condition.The hiking trip is suitable for children over 14 years.

DAY 1: Arrival in Tarvisio

DAY 2: Tarvisio - Podkoren/Kranjska Gora

In the morning a transfer gets you to the starting point of the tour in Maglern, from there the hiking along the borders of Austria, Italy and Slovenia you will get to the Dreiländereck „the three-country corner“ also known as Peč in Slovenian or Monte Forno in Italian. This mountain is the meeting point between three languages, cultures and states. From here is also possible to hike from Arnoldstein to Ratece. Finally, your stage ends in Podkoren, a charming little village that lies on the right side of the Sava Dolinka river band, not far from Kranjska Gora. Lovingly described by the famous British chemist Sir Humphry Davy, as “his old nest”.
DAY 3: KranjskaGora/Podkoren - Rifugio Zacchi

Today‘s stage starts on the famous Alpe Adria Trail, and proceeds for experts hikers through the Triglav Nationalpark; Slovenia’s largest protected area where you feel the embrace of the unspoiled nature; you will be marvelled and enchanted by the lushing landscape and flourishing and rich flora. The final part of the stage crosses over the border to Italy; Rifugio Zacchi is the final stop of the day and lies in the proximity of the mighty Mangart Group.
DAY 4: Rifugio Zacchi - Fusine Lakes - Monte Lussari

From Rifugio Zacchi, you hike to the White Lakes (Laghi di Fusine), small and fascinating lakes formed by glaciers embedded in a dense spruce forest at the foot of mountain Mangart. Depending on the season, enjoy the fascinating reflection of the surroun- ding mountains. Then through wide and impressive pine forests, you walk back to Tarvisio and by cable car to Monte Lussari.
DAY 5: Monte Lussari - Camporosso - Tarvisio
approx. 14km; ascent approx. 470Hm; descent approx. 1390Hm / approx. 5 hrs.
The trail leading down from Monte Lussari is a hike through quiet woods that takes you all the way down to Valbruna. Italy and the Habsburg Empire fought over this area during the First World War, and just before entering the village you can visit the Heroes' Cemetery, the final resting place of 500 Austro-Hungarian soldiers; the cemetery includes a beautiful wooden chapel. From Valbruna you can reach Camporosso via the Alpe Adria Trail. From there, a short transfer will take you to Tarvisio.

By car: Tarvisio is accessible on the motorway which connects the A4 motorway (Turin–Trieste) and the Austrian Süd Auto- bahn (A2).
By train: Tarvisio Boscoverde station is an international railway station, the train services are operated by Trenitalia and ÖBB, as well as a bus service that connects Tarvisio to Udine.
By plane: The nearest airport to Tarvisio is Klagenfurt (KLU).
